Resort Fees Hit New Highs

September 26, 2018: The dreaded resort fee — paying for things you expect to be part of your daily room charge — are reaching new $$ highs around the US. Miami leads the way with one hotel’s daily resort fee now topping $160 A DAY — in Orlando, daily resort fees can be in excess of $80 — watch out for more of the same in Las Vegas, New York and Honolulu. Protest these fees when you check out — many times you can get them reduced or removed — don’t be bashful!

US the Best Place for Spotting Roadside Attractions

September 13, 2018: Yup — only in the US can you be greeted on the road with the world’s largest prairie dog statue when you motor through Cactus Flat, South Dakota; and don’t miss the world’s largest ketchup bottle as you travel through Collinsville, Il; and thank you Jimmy Carter fans for the 13 foot tall smiling peanut (with Jimmy Carter style teeth smiling at you) as you make your way through Plains, Georgia.  Giant chickens, Vulcans and roadside rocket ships — KEEP AMERICA GREAT — with roadside fun!!!

TSA’s Instagram Site — You’re In for a Treat!

September 7, 2018: TSA manages a great Instagram online site — here’s a recent example of a daily post:

Be a Night Owl and Save Money on Airline Reservations

September 6, 2018: Check out airfares almost any night of the week — after midnight (central time) … for some good travel deals and better reservation agent time and customer service. Most major carriers remote your call to ether an east coast or mid west call center. And with phone traffic, less reservations staff have more time to listen and work on better prices. Be somewhat flexible with your travel days and times — you might have to make a stop along the way but that could save you hundreds of dollars — with most airports less crowded in the early AM. What’s the hurry anyway?!

More Electric Planes in the Sky?

September 5, 2018: Maybe — Zunum Aero expects to boost regional travel with new “hybrid-electric” planes — using a similar technology that run Prius and Tesla’s — and provide service from smaller under used airports.  The joint Boeing-Jet Blue venture (with 100 planes in the order pipeline) will be operated by a private company called “Jet Suite” and plans to be in the air by 2022. Airport turn around times could be as little as ten minutes — with batteries changed quickly — and down time minimized. Hopefully travel prices with come down and travel convenience go up?
