Big Brown (UPS) Mechanics do have a sense of humor!

Apparently, UPS pilots fill out a form known as a “gripe sheet” to inform mechanics about problems with their aircraft. The mechanics then correct the problems, document their repairs on the form and the pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.

Hence, here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers (and who says that aviation mechanics do not have a sense of humour!):

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
*
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Probably because auto-land is not installed on this aircraft.
*
P: Something loose in cockpit
S: Something tightened in cockpit
*
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.
*
P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode has a 200 ft. per min. descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
*
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
*
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
*
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That’s what friction locks are for.
*
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF IS inoperative in OFF mode.
*
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you’re right.
*
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.
*
PS: Aircraft acting funny
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right and be serious.
*
P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
*
P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.
*
And the best one for last
*

S: Took hammer away from midget.

Southwest to Make it Five for Five in Southern California

February 18, 2016: Southwest is planning to add Long Beach to the list of airports it serves in southern California — and with the LGB addition, will now serve all five major passenger airports in the greater southern California area. Rumors continue to circulate highlighting further Southwest service expansion internationally — maybe Mexico and the Caribbean — as well as service from the west coast to Hawaii. Virgin is adding Hawaii service from both Los Angeles and San Francisco — so, just maybe, overly inflated airfares to the islands will drop some? MAHALO

Travel Feature Tuesday: Take a Trip to Beautiful Downtown Inglewood?

February 16, 2016: Though a trip to Inglewood, CA is likely not on the agenda of most LA tourists, that will certainly change soon, as the newly relocated Los Angeles Rams will call the urban town “home” in a couple of years. The town is currently one of the many lower-income business districts of LA, but expect to see a rapid and major overhaul into one of the city’s major civic arts locations, and likely one of the largest tourist destinations the city has to offer.

February 15, 2016: Never have enough luggage space when you travel? Want to bring more shoes, clothes for the kids …. just want to travel with more stuff?

Well check out the Shelfpack — the multi-level shelf suitcase. Not sure you want to try the Shelfpack as a carry on or how difficult this might be to navigate through the airport — but the numerous onboard shelves make it easy to overpack if you travel for a weekend or month!

Don’t Delay — Apply Now for a Passport or Renewal

February 11, 2016: Officials say they are expecting more than 17 million new passports and passport renewals this year — and expect at least six weeks to receive your passport once all the paperwork submitted. And, here’s a travel tip — if you have six months or less remaining on your passport, some countries will not let you in. If you travel with small kids, get them each a passport too. There is no better “authentic” US identification than a passport.

Travel Feature Tuesday: Airlines Pocket Profits?

February 9, 2016: Everyone is reaping the benefits of falling oil prices — everyone except airline passengers. Despite jet fuel being the lowest it’s been in years — just ⅓ the price it was two years ago — unsurprisingly, Airlines have chosen to keep their prices the same. Thankfully they have somewhat responded with the return of the now-nostalgic complimentary snacks, but if they really want to treat their customers, might I suggest the nostalgic ticket prices?

Travel Feature Tuesday: Cruising Through Europe

February 2, 2016: Ever considered a European river cruise? That ship’s sailed for many popular lines this year, but reservations are already available for 2017 through one popular line, AmaWaterways. Similar to the coastal adventure of an ocean cruise, river cruises will take you through popular mainland destinations, without the painful process of changing hotels. Plus through early booking options, a river cruise through Europe might just be easier on you and your check book. The experience offers a much less crowded way to enjoy a variety of destinations and way less hassle than overcrowded cruise ships–puts the fun back into travel!!
