Omicron tidal wave hits Europe!
The World Health organization says the Omicron variant is moving so fast across Europe that it could hit more than half the population — with over 7 million new cases just the first 2 weeks of 2022! Government officials are looking at more restrictions (especially travel) as well as “stay at home” options!!!
4th Quarter loss for American over $1B!
American Airlines says their pandemic and weather stricken 4th quarter will end with a $1.2 BILLION DOLLAR loss with revenue down 17% … and they predict losses will continue into the new year at a billion or more per quarter!!! Tough business these days!!!!!!!
Yikes – 125 Passengers on ONE FLIGHT test positive for COVID!
Flight was a Boeing 767 from Italy to India with 179 travelers — with 125 testing POSITIVE for covid when the jet landed — travel fully vaccinated and MASK UP!!!
Virus hits EVERY US Cruise with passengers
COVID cases have been reported on EVERY cruise ship sailing in US waters (over 100) … as “tempting” as cruise deals and low prices are these days, hold off on “floating” travel plans for now!!!
20,000+ Flight Cancellations?
YUP — since the third week of December US air carriers have canceled more than 20,000 flights due to bad weather and COVID related staff shortages for ground, airport service and flight crews, and it looks like more “on the schedule” for January!!! If you plan to travel, be patient and flexible — if not, stay home!!!

During the Xmas holiday travel season, the Curmudgeon experienced a canceled flight (rebooked to the following day) due to weather issues from Alaska Air. This is the apology they sent — First Class move on their part and why they remain one of the best run-passenger friendly airlines in the USA.
