TC Special: OH MY MAMMA — MIA?
September 10, 2016: Hi All: I’m the Travel Curmudgeon’s youngest grand daughter checking in from London and the play I saw and am going to tell you about is Mamma Mia. Mamma Mia is the best play you can see. It is Big, it is bold, It is beautiful. It’s fun for everyone. The theater was so high it looked like it was touching the sky. My favorite part was when one of the dancers did a Russian dance — where he jumps up, opens his legs, and touches his feet while still in the air. The music is really exciting too and makes you want to jump up and dance. I liked Mamma Mia so much I wanted to see it again the next day but the Curmudgeon said, “No!” If you come to London see Mamma Mia — it is the best show you will ever see!!!

LA Fleet Week
September 7, 2016: The LA Waterfront in San Pedro, CA has been a growing tourist attraction over the last few years, and this last weekend it became the home of Los Angeles’ first annual Fleet Week. A tradition for US service members since the 1930s, Fleet Week gives Sailors and Marines an opportunity to visit cities around the country while meeting and showing off their ships to the public. The next Fleet Week will be held October 3-10 in San Francisco, with an air show, ship tours and more! It’s a great day trip for, parents and children alike.
Virgin’s Upper Class Business – First Class Seating Has No Class!
September 6, 2016: Very cramped — no way to easily look out the window — and you need flight attendant help to create, manage and install your sleeper seat bed — and a degree in electronics needed to operate the entertainment system on their ancient Airbus fleet.
Comparing Coach-Class Legroom Across Airlines
September 1, 2016: It’s no secret that airlines want to shove as many people into their planes as humanly possible, shaving off legroom and, frankly, butt room inch by inch. It’s such an issue that the some U.S. senators put forth a plan to regulate seat sizes earlier this year (it failed).
Not every airline offers the same amount (or lack) of room between seats, but it’s hard to visualize the difference between 31 inches and 34. CNN Money’s graphics whizzes put together this animated gem, which shows how legroom compares across several different airlines. The animation moves through the different setups, bolding the airline’s name and legroom inches as the seat setup is visualized above. JetBlue’s refrain, “the most legroom in coach,” bears out, while Spirit’s stingy spirit—half a foot less legroom than JetBlue—becomes even more apparent. (Story via: mentalfloss.com)

August 30, 2016: Delta, in an effort to “one up” the competition will soon be offering pod-style private business class seats on long haul flights — seats will be individual and even have a door — as high as the seat — that slides shut. The new service, set to start next year, is called Delta One, and includes additional service and pod amenities — maybe even a door bell?
